KINDLE VERSION not as Useful!

I bought the KINDLE version which I now regret. The three stars isn't for the content of the book as much as it is the FORMAT on a kindle. There are things in the appendix that refer to page numbers in the printed book. As anyone with a KINDLE knows, that means nothing in the Kindle world. There is no easy way to find what you are looking for. The content of the book and the writing style is GREAT. You will learn something in the first two chapters and want to keep reading. Sometimes, having a real, hardbound book in hand it the way to go.

For one, Deng Xiaoping had singled out Singapore as a model for China's reforms and China today continues to find Singapore's experience relevant. Singapore is also learning from China in the process. The two countries also have a number of bilateral institutional mechanisms that have become more important in reviewing existing cooperation and identifying new ways of working together. Rather than simply provide an overview of bilateral relations, the book highlights the unique or distinguishing features of the SingaporeChina relationship in four main areas, which are revealed in the book.

About the Author
Zheng Yongnian is professor and director of the East Asian Institute, National University of Singapore. He is the editor of Series on Contemporary China (World Scientific Publishing) and editor of China Policy Series (Routledge). He is also the editor of China: An International Journal and the co-editor of East Asian Policy. He has studied both China's transformation and its external relations. His papers have appeared in journals such as Comparative Political Studies, Political Science Quarterly, Third World Quarterly and China Quarterly. He is the author of numerous books, including The Chinese Communist Party as Organizational Emperor, Technological Empowerment, De Facto Federalism in China, Discovering Chinese Nationalism in China and Globalization and State Transformation in China, and coeditor of dozens of books on China's domestic development and international relations including the latest volumes China Entering the Xi Era and China and International Relations: The Chinese View and the Contribution of Wang Gungwu (2010). Besides his research work, professor Zheng has also been an academic activist. He served as a consultant to United Nations Development Programme on China's rural development and democracy. In addition, he has been a columnist for Xinbao (Hong Kong) and Zaobao (Singapore) for many years, writing numerous commentaries on China's domestic and international affairs. Prof Zheng received his BA and MA degrees from Beijing University, and his PhD at Princeton University. He was a recipient of Social Science Research Council-MacArthur Foundation Fellowship (1995–1997) and John D and Catherine T MacArthur Foundation Fellowship (2003–2004). He was professor and founding research director of the China Policy Institute, the University of Nottingham, United Kingdom (2005–2008).

Lye Liang Fook is assistant director and research fellow at the East Asian Institute, National University of Singapore. His research interests cover China's central-local relations, political legitimacy, print media, China-ASEAN relations and China–Singapore relations. He was part of a team that completed a study on the Suzhou Industrial Park, a flagship project between China and Singapore. He has also conducted research into the Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-city project, the latest flagship project between China and Singapore. He attended the Hanban program for distinguished scholars in China studies in 2009. His publications have appeared in Routledge, International Relations of the Asia Pacific, Journal of Chinese Political Science, Eastern Universities Press, Institute of Southeast Asian Studies (ISEAS) Publishing, Konrad Adenauer Stiftung Publishing, World Scientific Publishing and China: An International Journal. Besides the academia, he manages the Singapore Secretariat of the Network of East Asian Think Tanks (NEAT) and the Network of ASEAN-China Think Tanks (NACT), two Track II bodies that aim to foster ASEAN plus Three cooperation and ASEAN plus One cooperation respectively.

About the Author

Nina Beaman

Ed.D., MSN, CNE (NLN), RN-BC (PMH), RNC-AWHC, CMA (AAMA) Nina Beaman has been a Certified Medical Assistant since 1994 and has participated actively on the local, state, and national levels of the American Association of Medical Assistants. She is also a triple-certified Registered Nurse with certifications in Nursing Education, Psychiatric/Mental Health and Ambulatory Women’s Health. She completed her doctoral dissertation on "Using Disaster Simulation to Promote Volunteerism in Medical Assisting Students." Dr. Beaman teaches at Aspen University and Independence University. Nina owns a Consulting firm, Positive Transitions, where she provides crisis intervention, education, curriculum development, continuing education review, and violence prevention training. A popular speaker and author, she writes on her farm in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. In her spare time, she works as a forensic nurse consultant and disaster expert.

Ron Maly currently holds certifications as a RMA (AMT) and CPhT (PTCB). He obtained his B.S. degree in Biology, Natural Science and Pre-Med with a minor in Chemistry from Midland Lutheran College in Fremont, Nebraska in 1989. In 1991 he received his M.A. degree (with thesis) in Biology from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. The abstract from his thesis has been nationally published. In 1992 Ron was employed with Harris Laboratories (currently Celerion) in Lincoln, NE as a Chemist and later as a Validation Scientist. In his seven years with Harris Laboratories, Ron had numerous scientific papers on LC/MS/MS pharmaceutical-based research presented at national conferences. In 1999 Ron began working as a medical assistant/histotechnologist for a Moh’s micrographic surgeon in Omaha, NE. During this time he also began working part-time as a pharmacy technician. From 2005 to present, Ron has taught at the college level as a Pharmacy Technician Program Coordinator for Hamilton College/Kaplan University, Council Bluffs, IA; Medical Assisting Program Coordinator and Medical Billing and Coding Coordinator at the Omaha School of Massage and Healthcare of Herzing University, Omaha, NE and is currently the Medical Assisting Program Coordinator and Interim Pharmacy Technician Program Coordinator for National American University, Bellevue, NE.

Great for MA certification exam prep!

My school provides us the e-book for this textbook. Since I'll be using it throughout my entire MA program, I decided to order the hard copy. Fast deliver, great condition for a used book. I have had no problem comprehending the text. It is sorted out nicely, and addresses all the areas that will be on the national certification exam. I would love it were spiral-bound because it is THICK, but I think it is a great textbook for students who are wanting to be become CMAs.

A fun read - for both of us.

This was a GREAT kid's book. My 7 yr old grandson loved it. Reads well, good sense of humor, gross things kids (especially boys) like. A lot of it reads like 'opposite day' - zombies want pimples. I enjoyed it too.

Okay it’s a diary story book, about what you would expect. Not too badly done, though not my cup of tea… Age level, I don’t think many teens would be interested in this, the character is only 12 and basic rule of writing is your audience is no older than you character. Yes there are exceptions, but not at this level.

For what it is it gets 5 stars, recommend it for free, but if it stays at $0.98 it’s worth buying for the younger ones. It’s not great literature, but at least they are reading English at a semi reasonable level.

It is applicable to a wide variety of materials, from high-temperature superconductors and stabilized ceramics to sintered alloys and new electronic materials. The first procedural guide to RUS, Resonant Ultrasound Spectroscopy offers a clear step-by-step tutorial, from developing a preliminary set of resonances to final determination of moduli. The book also contains intermediate computer outputs showing where mistakes are made, how to spot them, and how to remeasure to correct problems. Also a complete reference to the language of RUS, this book is full of clear explanations of every variable, concept, and hard-to-find term currently in use. In addition, the book provides an introduction to mechanical resonances and relevant aspects of information theory as well as the first complete description of how RUS is used as a nondestructive evaluation (NDE) tool, including what qualities of a resonance measurement can be used to select flawed parts.

About the Author
Paul Hegstrom is the founder of Life Skills International, a program designed to teach life skills to individuals with unacceptable behaviors and enhance family relationships through nurturing character and maturity. Paul holds a Bachelor of Science degree in pastoral counseling and a Ph.D. in marriage and family therapy. He is a certified cognitive behavioral therapist with the National Board of Cognitive Behavioral Therapists and has been featured by such national media as USA Today, Focus on the Family, The 700 Club, The Montel Williams Show, and The Coral Ridge Hour. Paul and Judy Hegstrom’s story was featured in the 1995 CBS movie, Unforgivable: The Life Story of Paul Hegstrom, which starred John Ritter.

A Must Read and Heed Book!

Implement! Do it! Half of my counseling career dealt with violent, angry men, incarcerated for life because they totally lost it... and now regret it. "If only someone had stopped me before I did her in." This statement said over and over even when some went in for counseling sessions yet departed because they did not want the "counsel." That meant dramatic change and they loved their power position so much their "security blanket" was not about to be given up.
Hegstrom's book skillfully presents these insights with all the "on the scene" drama [routinely seen by deputies] as you cannot help but empathize along with all the hurt, pain, and grief experienced by the two parties tied together in these agonizing episodes. Nonetheless, if the solution is only pondered and never applied, they spin their wheels agonizing forever. Read and heed his counsel!
For those couples who will read, I can give them a copy of this book. It is that helpful.

A Must Read for Anyone Dealing With Angry People, Including Yourself!!

Update: I am no longer with the fiance I mentioned in my review. For almost five years now, I have been very happily married to a wonderful man that treats me extremely well. I am truly blessed!

Original review: While in the bookstore at church earlier this year, my fiance at the time held up the book, Angry Men and the Women Who Love Them, and said, "Look at this." My response was, "I want that book. Please buy it for me!" which he did. I had been seeing a pattern of anger and rage in him, and it scared me.

This book absolutely opened my eyes to the root causes of anger, which is a secondary emotion. I grew up with an angry father and so did my fiance, who was incredibly wounded physically, emotionally, and sexually while growing up. What I found so helpful about this book is the discussion of the brain and what happens physiologically when we are physically, emotionally, mentally, and/or sexually wounded before the age of thirteen. The exciting news: It's fixable!!

A month after reading the book I signed up for a Life Skills class and committed to attending once a week for seven months. (The Life Skills organization was started by Paul Hegstrom when he found that typical anger management classes did not work for him and the rage he was dealing with in his own life.) I discovered that I have sought out angry men to date my whole life and did not realize I was doing it. I am a little more than half way through the class now and I can honestly say it is the hardest and yet the most rewarding thing I have ever done in my life. I am learning about myself, working through the pain of my childhood wounds, and seeing incredible hope for my future. Next to becoming a Christian, reading the book and taking the class are the best things I have ever done.

The book gave me the information I needed, and the class is giving me the support and the tools I need to experience healthy relationships with others and most importantly with myself. I find I have a lot more compassion for angry people, but I am also becoming a lot wiser and more discerning about how I interact with them. I highly recommend the book (a very interesting and easy read) and the Life Skills class.

the view of an angry man

An excellent book to help couples having anger issues. I was suprised to learn that I was angry (by definition) and that it is controllable (never thought so). It turned me round, made me face myself, in a similar way to an alcoholic.
