Excellent ultrasound book

This is an excellent ultrasound book which covers the basics of ultrasound very clearly.

I have no prior experience to ultrasound but has basic math and physics knowledge. This book is an excellent book for undergraduates going into the field of ultrasound imaging. It deals with the physics behind ultrasound and also the basic principle of ultrasound imaging.

Good book to get started quickly - great for designers

I chose four stars because it doesn't cover Javascript as much as I expected. The topic of Javascript is quite dense, which the size of the book can't do it justice, but it would've been nice to introduce some techniques in Javascript, like assigning new objects to properties of objects and what contexts are used - things like that. The most that's covered is jQuery, which I appreciated the manner of which it was clearly written and concise. In fact, I was able to memorize jQuery much faster in this book than the jQuery pocket reference from O' Reilly and even videos on the topic.

After going at it for a full week, I feel confident in using jQuery - this is because the author always gave practical examples in how to use a particular function, so recalling the code from memory is easy. There are some nice sections like form handling, and some advice like using the .filter method that will go a long way. It goes over event handlers, animation, and even mobile jQuery design. It's these little things that I liked because it gives the reader a direction without throwing everything all at once along with abstract definitions in order to confuse you. In some areas, Javascript is used to describe what's going on under the hood, so that can be illuminating.

I haven't tried out the section on AJAX yet, but I've been having this little book with me wherever I go to study the core languages.

In sum, I think it's worth it if you want to have a working knowledge of jQuery without moving into advanced territory too quickly.

Awesome Resource for JavaScript Developers

This book has been a great resource. It is small which makes it easy to find things and has been invaluable for me when I can't quite remember how do do something with JavaScript or jQuery. I can usually quickly find an example in this book that covers what I am trying to do with a simple code example that is easy to adapt.

For example, the other day I was trying to animate some menu actions and looked at the animation chapter and was able to easily figure out how to animate the show() and hide() functions. I also used the fadeTo() example to animate enabling and disabling of menu items.

It's just a great little book!

This is a great reference book for jQuery. It is great for beginners and people who want to learn (with easy examples) how to get started with jquery / javascript. I was able to hand this book off to one of our interns to touch up some jquery ui interactions as well as some basic js bugs and he was able to use this book to help him out. It is packed with examples and should help you on your path of becoming a js ninja :).

So Outdated It's Worthless

This book is horribly outdated and filled with generalities. It will NOT give you an understanding of school finance in CA or elsewhere. I kept wondering why the authors stated things like, "Today a major portion of a CBO's [chief business officer's] daily work is done on a computer." I then noticed that this book was originally written in 1992 and has just been repeatedly reprinted with newer publication dates. The book is a very thin 170 pages with each topic receiving a few sentences at best. I was completely stunned when one of the key words listed at the end of a chapter (Chapter 14 School Food Service Program) was "Burger King". I am not kidding. Burger King was mentioned ONCE in the chapter and has no consequence on school finance, yet some idiot thought this should be a key word for the entire chapter. In fact Del Taco was listed in the same sentence, "Some schools have turned to fast food and soda companies, like Del Taco and Burger King, for part of the daily meals." So why isn't Del Taco a key word by these horrible standards? If this book were current, it would have discussed the current CA law that banned soda products in schools. The book uses no specifics and provided me with no information to help me learn about School Finance in California. This book is insanely overpriced at $114 and must only be this price because the someone uses it as a course textbook (which is mortifying).The authors should be embarrassed this book is being sold at this price considering throughout the book it discusses things like Excel, "A school principal may request assistance from the business office for tools to ease the tasks of building and monitoring the budget. Many financial transactions can be monitored more quickly and easily with a personal computer. Some of these tasks include..." The book then goes on to give you a few pages explaining how to set up a worksheet in Excel and "The Advantages of Excel". Even in 1992 this book would have been so generic as to not provide me with solid information on school finance. Rather it speaks in generalities with no actual real world examples and cases. I am disgusted that Amazon, Kendall Hunt Publishing, and these authors can conscionably sell this book.

This books comes with a CD, but mine was missing. This should have been put in the description when selling the item. A little deceptive that it wasn't stated that the CD was missing.

Very Good Murder/Mystery

A murder/mystery with a well written plot and a good mix of well developed characters. The story has plenty of action and an unexpected ending. Provided for a quick enjoyable read. I really enjoyed this book and highly recommend it for all 16+ readers.

Island Mystery

The ten of them were on the remote island for a year. Kind of like in Survivor, only real, not a TV show. They had all applied and were chosen to go on this adventure, the end result of which was to be a film of their adventure. None of them was supposed to know each other before the island, except it did not take for long for most of them to figure out they had some sort of connection to others. They just could not figure out all the pieces of the puzzle as to why they were chosen for this strange adventure. This is their story. The story follows the ten through their daily existence on the island: what and how they forage for food and other necessities of life, how they build whatever shelters they have, how they explore the island, and how they interact as a team. The only glitch comes when some of the ten start dying, either because of an accident, murder, or some other nefarious means. How and why the deaths begin and continue is the real mystery of this book. Along with this murder mystery, the book provides a good picture of survival on the island as well as how and what motivates the people who are part of this experiment/adventure. I thought the plot was pretty good. The character development, for the most part, was also quite good, as were the setting and descriptions. The author writes well, so the book moved along quickly and smoothly. It did start out a bit slow, but that was probably because the author had to get everyone on the island and set the stage for what was to come. Once they got “into the groove”, the pace picked up and continued smoothly and easily to the finish, which was a bit surprising. In the last chapter, those left spend time discussing the “adventure”, where the author sheds some light on the hows and whys of the characters and their actions and the plot, all of which filled in a lot for me. I think any fan of reality shows, like Survivor, who enjoys good mysteries will enjoy this one. Also, anyone who enjoys a good mystery that is not too long and which moves along nicely will enjoy it. I received this through the Kindle Scout program to read and review.

I have used spreadsheets since they first existed. I'm dealing with Excel for the MAC, but some omissions are just terrible. As an example, try to find the explanation for the Fill function under the Edit pull down doesn't exist. You won't find it in the index. I found numerous other examples when the text did not match the release and the Index failed. Copying cells with other cell references, do not adjust properly. I attribute this to poor programming.

The Best of All for Mac Excel

As with the majority of Excel programmers, I began using spreadsheets on the PC. When I much later switched to using Mac platforms, I could only describe the differences between the two Excel implementations as quirky, especially when it comes to dates. This book is the only one I have found that clearly explains all of the Mac nuances.

Unvarnished, But Necessary Counsel

Dr. Thompson, the founder of the Verbal Judo program, has teamed up with Gregory Walker, to comment on the dysfunctional problems found in organizations and they propose some interesting solutions, unique problem solving tactics and effective success strategies. This is a somewhat idiosyncratic commentary on organizational politics, communications and leadership in today's world.

A short book, 180 pages, it is divided into 15 topical chapters that range from the Tao of Leadership to the Art and Gift of Persuasion. The unifying theme is the need for improved leadership built upon honest and effective communication. The book addresses what went wrong, communication styles, principles for supervisory success and approaches to analytical thinking and effectiveness.

With such a broad range of topics in a small book, there is a real risk of skimming the topics and leaving the reader confused. However; the authors skillfully handle the task often referencing their collective experience in the form of brief stories. Their overall approach is certainly less than diplomatic, for example at their discussion of the four levels of expertise, they write:

To allow incompetence a berth in your organization is in itself a sign of incompetence at the highest level of responsibility. It is also a sign of a moral and ethical coward.

While their approach may offend, it does cause the reader to actively engage in the discussion and consider both their primary points and supporting arguments carefully.

Thompson and Walker are skilled teachers and seasoned practitioners, the time you invest reading this book will be enriching. Buy the book, read this book and more importantly put these principles into action.

Understanding what leadership is all about, the authors shed light on what it takes to develop an excellent workforce -- it takes non-egotistical, steadfast leaders, people who'll put themselves in the background to achieve the greater good! I'm hooked and have read this book twice and am implementing it daily in both my professional and personal life! A perfect supplement to the Verbal Judo way!

Once you start applying the tenets of this book you'll be pleasantly surprised at how much less stress you have and how much easier it is to manage people and get through the day. Makes things a lot easier to deal with, both subordinates and upper management along with the three types of people mentioned in the book.
