Thomas Müller-Marqués Berger (Stuttgart, Germany) is a partner at Ernst & Young GmbH and currently serves as the firm's Global Leader of International Public Sector Accounting.
Thomas has been a member of the International Public Sector Accounting Standards Board (IPSASB) since January 2009, with his term recently being renewed until the end of 2014. Before joining the IPSASB, he was a member of the IFAC Public Sector Steering Committee on Social Policy Obligations, a subgroup of the IPSASB, during 2003 and 2004.
He has also been a member of the FEE Public Sector Committee (European Federation of Chartered Accountants) since 2003, and was appointed Chair in January 2012. At a national level, he has been a member of the German Public Sector Committee at the German Institute of Chartered Accountants (Institut der Wirtschaftsprüfer in Deutschland (IDW)) for almost 10 years.

It is a little less meaty than I would have liked - mind you it is called a SUMMARY.
I think it might be better for someone who is not familiar with IPSAS (or indeed accruals accounting). If you need to learn these things it is likely your employer (my employer has produced lots of information) or accounting body (e.g. CIPFA) would have something more appropriate or just go straight to the standard setting bodies.

This book is amazing! I have had a great time when reading it. The love story is interesting for me. Some funny and also emotional here. The cover is quite simple but its content sounds good for me. The story of Emma really make me think about myself. I am sure that I will read this book again and again for many times. "No place like hell", yes, life is so beautiful. About the Author
Avram was born in Brooklyn, NY on 24 May 1951, and circumcised eight days later. His heart was circumcised in October 1975. He established and led The Seed of Abraham, the first Hebraic Perspective congregation in Tulsa, OK, from 1983 to 1998. He and his wife Ruti also lived in Israel for 16 years (1995-1997 and 1999-2013) and witnessed to thousands of Israelis about Messiah Yeshua. Avram also trains and ordains men to begin affiliate congregations of The Seed of Abraham in their own cities.

Good scholarship

I found this to be the best explaination of Acts 15: 20-21 I have ever read. Miriam in her review said the book was redundant. I, on the other hand, didn't see it as redundant. Instead I appreciated the author's involved study on what the word fornication in the Scriptures truly means. Miriam also said she had found no messianic leader who endorsed this book. Who cares? Do we really need someone else to think for us and tell us if something is correct? We should be like the Bereans (Act 17:11) and study things out for ourselves to see if they are so, instead of depending on so-called experts to do our thinking for us. Read the book it will change your view of the Scriptures.

A necessary read

Most westerners today have little or no knowledge of the horrors of the ancient world. Things such as infant sacrifice and cult prostitution probably seem like something from a macabre fantasy novel. The Mosaic Law, when held up against today's secular humanist standards (which never would have evolved to the extent that they have without Judaism and Christianity), can be framed to seem archaic. That is definitely not the whole picture, and when you see the Law in the midst of the chaos it was meant to heal, the love, wisdom and beauty at its foundations are sure.

I do not claim to be a Biblical scholar, but I have read the Bible most of my life, I am widely read in other subjects, and I do have a sense of when things "line up". This book lines up. It brings clarity where there has long been confusion; especially those places in the New Testament that never seem to quite make sense; about which pastors and Sunday school teachers either glaze over, make awkward dogmatic statements or (preferably) admit their lack of understanding. The questions we all need to ask ourselves are: Are we willing to value truth over tradition? Do we trust God enough to pursue truth? The next question is a little more frightening: What are we going to do with truth when we find it?

This book has convinced me that more "ordinary people" need to be willing to study the Biblical languages. My experience with studying non-Biblical languages (other than my own), tells me it actually doesn't take a genius to do so, though it does take someone who is willing to not quickly jump to easy conclusions based on partial knowledge or personal agenda. I have been longing to read a book like this one for years, and it has encouraged me to study more. I will keep it close by as I do so.

A ground breaking, incredibly valuable work! Essential for a clear understanding of Scripture.

The Apostle John uses "porneia" in Rev 2:20; it is clear in context that the word represents "cult prostitution." He uses the word again in 9:21, 14:8, 17:2, 17:4, 18:3 and 19:2. Each place "cult prostitution" makes the best sense. It is an ancient problem among God's chosen people, central to the destruction of the northern kingdom of Israel and the captivity of the southern kingdom of Judah. The word is used 25 times in writings of the Apostles. In Matthew 5:32 the word is often translated "sexual immorality" but that makes no sense on two levels. The first is that a married woman who crosses the line is committing adultery, per se. But the greek word for adultery is not used, porneia is used. And, second: where is forgiveness and reconciliation? If marriage is a symbol and type of God's relationship to his ekklesia (the word church does not appear in the greek text), how can a man just divorce his wife for a sin that is common (when defined by Jesus as lust)?

What infinitely better fits here is "cult prostitution" - a married believer that goes to a pagan temple to engage in pagan worship through cult prostitution has committed the exact same sin as Judah and Israel, and has broken faith with both spouse and with God. This definition, cult prostitution, fits very well in Matt 5:19 (although sexual immorality also works there), it makes perfect sense in Matt 19:19, in John 8:41, in 1 Cor 6:13, in 1 Cor 6:18, in 1 Cor 7:2 in 2 Cor 12:21 (where moral impurities and promiscuity already would include "sexual immorality"), in Gal 5:19, in Eph 5:3, in Col 3:5.

The word porneia is used 3 times in Acts. In all 3 times, cult prostitution makes infinitely better sense than sexual immorality. In fact, looking back at Acts from Revelation, we see the warnings and dire results in Revelation of failing to heed the instruction in Acts 15:20, 15:29 and 21:25.

The 4 instructions in Acts 15:20 are actually a single group; they represent an instruction to people who lived in an era and place where pagan temple practices dominated Roman / Greek life and activities. The single instruction with 4 components were solely to protect the new believers from the destruction to come, as detailed in Revelation and which mirror the destruction of God's chosen people for pagan worship in Judah and Israel.

I believe Avram has done a fabulous job of research, with detailed and well documented arguments.

The bottom line is that the Jerusalem Council did NOT do either of 2 things. First, they did not impose the requirement to become fully Jewish through conversion in order to be saved. Second, they did not comment on non-Jewish followers and the Instruction given through Moses (the Torah), except to point out that Moses is taught every Shabbat (in my opinion meaning the new followers of Jesus will catch on to the way of the instruction as it is taught them).

Avram has to work hard to build his case. I think that he does so in a compelling manner. What makes his job hard is the incredible lack of insight shown by commentaries and commentators, who seem blinded by the obvious by their preconceptions. I have faced the same problem in commentators on Galatians who ignore Paul's own key to interpretation in Chapter 6 where he tells us the motivation of the agitators.

Greek words do have multiple meanings; the best is chosen by context. Porneia is best translated cult prostitution in almost every one of the 25 uses.

Hanna, BA, ThM, ThD, has taught for twenty years at Dallas Theological Seminary and currently serves as senior professor of Bible exposition and director emeritus at the Houston Campus of Dallas Seminary. He is the author of From Moses to Malachi: Surveying the Old Testament and numerous articles in Moody Monthly, mission periodicals, and the Christian Life Bible. About the Author
After receiving an MD from University of Athens, he came to the Arthritis Branch in 1979 where he trained in immunology and rheumatology. Between 1987 and 2007 he was a member of the Uniformed Services/Walter Reed community where served in various positions including Vice Chair for Research in the Department of Medicine and Chief of the Department of Cell Injury. In 2007 he joined the Beth Israel Medical Center as Chief of Rheumatology and Harvard Medical School as Professor of Medicine. He has served various leadership positions including President of the Clinical Immunology Society. He has served as chair of the Hypersensitivity, Autoimmunity, and Immune Mediated Diseases Study Section of the National Institutes of Health, Editor-in-Chief of Clinical Immunology, the official journal of FOCIS, and editor of Autoimmunity and Discovery Medicine, PLoS One and other journals. He has been elected to the Association of American Physicians, Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Sciences and Master of the American College of Physicians (MACP). He is the 2012 Lee C. Howley Jr. Arthritis Research Prize from the Arthritis Foundation and a MERIT award holder from NIH. Dr. Tsokos’ research focuses on the cellular and molecular pathogenesis of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). His laboratory has opened and led the field of molecular abnormalities on immune cells in patients with SLE. He directs a T32-sponsored fellowship on systemic autoimmunity and a Clinical Rheumatology Fellowship. Dr. Tsokos has trained over 110 colleagues many of whom hold senior leadership positions and run independent laboratories. His research is funded through NIH and DoD grants.

This is a classic book that what written by the D&D and the AD&D founder. This book as well as most of the first edition books are the best AD&D books that were ever written. The following books (second edition and the books that are being publish today) are nice but thay somehow took the charm out of the game - Instead of using your imagination you are being occupied with unnecessary rules and dice rolling. If you can find this book and other first edition books I truely suggest you would. This book plus the Monster Manual volume 2 are giving you more than enough coverage for an AD&D adventure, so you can leave the Monsters Compendium on the shelf.

This is THE book along with Monster Manual II for AD&D gaming. As a matter of fact, all of the books by Gygax were the best. Like one other review said, put on some Iron Maiden or other old school wicked tunes and enjoy. The artwork is amazing and darker than the new stuff, which is what made D&D so cool. I think this book inspired a lot of album covers and a great deal of imagination when playing this game. Miles above the new stuff, which is too colorful and p.c. Old school rules!

About the Author

Broadest coverage, patiently explained

It's not easy to cover such a huge subject, but these two architects do a remarkable job. The illustrator gets equal billing, and it's well-deserved, as the drawings alone are worth the price of the book. The best part is on design. I've never seen a book that allowed you to figure loads and size columns, or provided a worksheet to calculate heating requirements. The final section on construction is more of an overview but the important issues are always addressed. You'll need to supplement your reading, especially since newer technologies--housewrap, truss roofs, engineered lumber--are not covered, but everything in this book is useful.

Good Starter Book

As a person who is looking to build their own house the book provided a good start. It gave a great overview of how to design living area and incorporate ideas to the plan. As others have pointed out it is not current to todays innovations, however, it is a great start. I would use other construction type books to supplement the education received via this book. It also contains many formulas for calculating loads and other calcs for construction. I wish it covered more regarding slabs other than the crawl space one used in the example house that was being designed. It did go into detail about some of the more overlooked things in building a house - ie: stair and fireplace design. Overall, I don't think it would be for an experienced builder, however, it gives someone like me who does not know much about overall design and homebuilding a great start.

Many of the concepts are timeless but the edition I received was 15 years old and much of the technology and materials in house building have changed.
